[Hunting Immortality] – Masha Bo

No one likes to see the face of a dead animal, especially one we have just devoured. And yet, throughout history we have used animal heads as trophies, showing off our hunting prowess and ability to ‘slay the beast.’ But what kind of beasts are we in the food chain?

Through provocative imagery and profound symbolism, the artist invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of life and the interconnectedness of all beings in the grand tapestry of existence.

The Anatomy of Life is a captivating collection that delves into the profound themes of mortality, transience, and the intricate interconnectedness of all living beings.

Each work combines elements of raw meat to create a visual tableau that challenges our perceptions and invites contemplation on the fragility and impermanence of existence.

At first glance, the works appear rather macabre, with carefully arranged raw meat full of blooded hues and texture. Each piece of flesh serves as a tangible reminder of our shared physicality and underscores the undeniable reality of our corporeal nature. The cycle of human life is to be born, grow, and die. But for many animals, that cycle ends in being consumed. And yet, we are all flesh and blood – meat, muscle and sinews attached to bones.

“The Anatomy of Life” compels us to contemplate the inherent irony of the interconnectedness of all living beings. We are all part of the same intricate web of existence, sharing the same home. The only thing that separates us from animals is our ‘morality’. We are carnivorous by choice, happily eating any species below us in the food chain to satisfy our cravings. And yet, the rest of the animal world eats only to survive.
